Dr. Manhard is part of the Carlsbad
tradition of comfort and care. In his twenty-fourth year of practice, he is
committed to providing you with the very best that dentistry has to offer. You
will appreciate the warm and caring manner that he and his staff provide in
their state-of-the-art facility. Dr. Manhard is a graduate of Northeastern
University in Boston, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors
in Biology. He went on to dental school at the University of Detroit School of
Dentistry. He has practiced dentistry in Michigan and Connecticut before
relocating to California. He, his wife Kimberly, and three children reside in
Carlsbad.
Dr. Manhard is committed to continuing education. Each year he completes many
hours beyond the license requirements. He is an avid reader of the dental
literature and strives to use this information to offer the best for you. He
brought CAD/CAM technology into the practice in 2004 and has completed many
hundreds of crowns, veneers, and fillings since using the computer to design and
make crowns while patients wait. Dr. Manhard says, “I am absolutely convinced
that CAD/CAM technology represents a huge step forward in dental care. I am
thrilled to be able to provide this service to my patients. It eliminates the
need for temporaries and second visits for crowns. It is also very conservative,
preserving precious tooth enamel.”
Dr Manhard also believes that early intervention in treatment of decay makes
good sense for patients. He states, “Every large filling, crown, or root canal,
started as a small area of decay that was either ignored or not seen. Hidden
decay is a huge problem. It doesn’t hurt and is hard to see. This is why I use
magnification, lighting, and technology to diagnose early. Patients often do not
need to be numb and I usually don’t use the drill. It’s a positive experience
for all and a huge therapeutic value for the patient!”
Dr Manhard studies and uses biocompatible materials like porcelain to restore
teeth. When removing old silver fillings he takes great care to isolate the
heavy metal waste. He states, “I do not want patients swallowing heavy metals.
Using a rubber dam to isolate before drilling is an easy technique to swallowing
silver-mercury waste.”
Dr Manhard also believes that anxiety is a large reason that patients do not
seek the dental care that they need. He uses oral conscious sedation for anxious
patients. He states, “Patients are so relaxed they tend to fall asleep during
their dental appointment. This is a very nice service for our patients.”
